Educator Resources: Election 2008 |

Breaking News! March 5, 2008 Primary Update
 |
|
For the first time since 1928, the presidential election is wide open: there is no incumbent president or vice president in the race. That means that numerous candidates-Democrats, Republicans and Independents-have tossed their hats in the ring. The primary season promises to be exciting.
Exciting, yes, but maybe brief. This year, the primaries will take place earlier than ever before. Many states, hoping to increase their influence in choosing their party's nominee, have moved their primaries to early 2008. It's possible that each party's candidate will be all but certain by early February. In other words, the whole thing might be over while you're still eating breakfast!
**Correction: The NEP Presidential Primaries Map lists several primaries as being held on February 2. The correct date for these primaries is Tuesday, February 5. The NEP regrets the error. A complete list of primary dates can be found here: http://www.fec.gov/pubrec/2008pdates.pdf
